April 29, 2001
Telemundo Internacional, the Pay TV channel distributed in more than 18 Latin American countries, and United Airlines have announced an exclusive agreement to offer Telemundo Internacional programming on United Airlines’ Latin American flights.
With this initiative, both companies pursue the mutual goal of providing high quality Telemundo branded Spanish language in-flight entertainment to United Airlines passengers.
The agreement, reached between Telemundo Internacional and Pace Communications, was implemented last April 1, 2001, on United Airlines routes: Miami-Buenos Aires, New York-Buenos Aires, Chicago-Buenos Aires, Miami- Santiago and Buenos Aires-Montevideo. Within the next months, it will also include the routes Los Angeles-Buenos Aires, and Los Angeles-Santiago. Many of these routes feature not only overhead video screens, but also in-seat personal video systems.
An estimated 400,000 United Airlines passengers on the above routes will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of Telemundo Internacional programming including: Padre Alberto, America en Vivo, Hollywood en Accion, and Jamz, among others.
According to Gustavo Mena, Vice President of Distribution of Telemundo Internacional, this alliance is an important element in the company’s overall strategy to position and promote the Telemundo brand in Latin America. “Taking into consideration the great flow of passenger traffic between the United States and Latin America, we are pleased that, by offering Telemundo programming to United Airlines passengers, we are reinforcing the already strong cultural ties between both regions,” expressed Mena.
