July 28, 2006
Telemundo announced that it has kicked-off production on three new shows in Mexico: “Quinceanera,” “Vas o No Vas” (Deal or No Deal) and its upcoming original novela “Marina.” These new programs are part of the network’s plans to increase production of original programming in Mexico to continue offering relevant, high-quality content to U.S. Hispanic viewers.
“We’re very excited about these three new shows,” said Patricio Wills, President of Telemundo-RTI and Head of Production, Telemundo Studios.”Producing in Mexico will not only help us to tap into some of the best talent in front and behind the camera in the industry, but also to continue offering our audience high-quality shows that entertain and are relevant to the U.S. Hispanic experience.”
Coming at the end of the month, Telemundo presents “Quinceanera,” a singing competition where 10 fifteen year old girls showcase their talent. The show will be hosted by Alan Tacher and led by industry veteran producer and director Giorgio Aresu. Produced in partnership with Nostromo America, the show’s crew is made-up of a team of more than 250 people and the set includes a 4,000 square-foot stage with ancient Roman inspired decor.
Coming to Spanish-language TV in the U.S. for the first time this fall is the much talked-about “Vas o No Vas” (Deal or no Deal), the game-show that has taken the world and the U.S. by storm on NBC, in co-production with Endemol USA Latino. Hosted by Hector Sandarti, 26 contestants get the chance to play for big money prizes. As the tension rises and the rewards get bigger, they have to choose between testing their luck or walking away from the largest prize in US Hispanic history, $250k.
“These new productions are one more example of our commitment to Mexico as we continue to strengthen our original production strategy,” said Don Browne, President, Telemundo. “The partnerships with Nostromo and Endemol USA Latino clearly speak to Telemundo’s growing leadership in the international production community which is opening doors to working with some of the best producers in the world.”
