Telemundo Las Vegas announces Local News expansion
July 2, 2014
Telemundo Las Vegas / KBLR announced an expansion to its local news operation designed to better serve the local Spanish-speaking community in Southern Nevada. The station will enhance its current weekday 6 PM and 11 PM newscasts, producing them both live from Las Vegas. Previously, both 30-minute newscasts were produced in Phoenix and transmitted to Las Vegas; the 6 PM newscast was broadcast live and the 11 PM newscast was pre-taped.
To support the investment in local news, the station is hiring more than a dozen new people, including Anchor Beatriz Moncayo and Weather Anchor Leticia Castro. Moncayo brings nearly 15 years of broadcast journalism experience, most recently as a Correspondent for international news channel, NTN24. Before that, she was Los Angeles Bureau Chief and Reporter at Mega TV. Castro has worked in the television industry for the last six years, including her most recent role as Weather Anchor and Reporter for Telemundo Houston. She had previously worked in Las Vegas as a Weather Anchor, Reporter, Multimedia Journalist and Assignment Desk Editor for the local Univision affiliate.
“By investing in live local news, we know we will do an even better job serving our viewers,” said Ramiro Lopez, Station Manager, Telemundo Las Vegas. “We are excited to introduce our new team to the Spanish-speaking community in Las Vegas and know they will continue to connect and inform our viewers with the most relevant local news, information and weather.”
Telemundo Las Vegas will also be partnering more closely on local news with the local NBC affiliate, KSNV. As a first step, the station has moved its operations into KSNV’s facilities.
