Telemundo launches enhanced Local TV news in four markets.
January 3, 2010
Telemundo announced it began broadcasting enhanced local newscasts in 4 markets yesterday, including Dallas, Houston, Arizona and San Jose. The announcement follows the rollout of a comprehensive strategy for Telemundo’s news division, announced by Don Browne, President, Telemundo, in December 2009 during which the network committed to an increased investment in local news.
“The successful rollout of our new local market newscasts is an inspiration to our network and station group. It is a strong signal that we are focusing on and investing in the very essence of our mission at Telemundo: To inform, empower, inspire and serve our US Hispanic audience,” said Browne.
Telemundo will allocate resources to strengthen its local newscasts to better serve local markets through relevant local, national, international and entertainment news. The stations will leverage their news assets to increase coverage and create more dynamic local content, supported by a change in formats, editorial strength and pacing.
“The Telemundo stations are committed to making a difference in each of the communities we serve, and a rich and relevant local newscast is an important reflection of that commitment,” added Ronald Gordon, President of the Telemundo Station Group. “We are very excited to strengthen our local presence, and to deliver our viewers a quality product that provides important local news and information.”
