Telemundo launches ‘Immigration Crossroads”.
March 17, 2006
As part of the commitment with the US Hispanic community, Telemundo and its television stations throughout the country launched “Immigration Crossroads,” a company-wide campaign dedicated to the debate surrounding the immigration laws, which will be featured throughout all of the network’s programming, including www.telemundo.com.
“The focus, discussion, and debate around the reform of immigration laws represent a defining moment for the Hispanic community and our country,” stated Don Browne, President of Telemundo Network. “As a network committed to its principles of service to the community and excellence in journalism, Telemundo’s mission is to provide our community with content that is relevant to their lives, focusing on issues that are important to Hispanics,” he concluded.
Starting Monday, April 10, with the morning show “Cada Dia con Maria Antonieta” (7am/6c), and continuing with “Cotorreando” (12pm/11c) and “Al Rojo Vivo con Maria Celeste” (5pm/4c), Telemundo has highlighted the immigration debate. The day-by-day, minute-by-minute news reports offers the diverse perspectives of the demonstrators and representatives from the community and the government. In addition, “Noticiero Telemundo” (6:30pm/5:30c), whose objective is to focus on issues that are relevant to the Hispanic community, will broadcast directly from the cities where the rallies are taking place.
The network’s commitment goes beyond its news programming, and will extend to the primetime schedule including novelas, as well as its series “Decisiones,” highlighting different aspects of the debate.
Likewise, www.telemundo.com joined the campaign as of last Monday. The network’s website offers news regarding this issue on a daily basis in its “Enterate” (Find out) section. In addition, the website provides message boards where users can express their opinions and access a survey entitled “Tu decides” (You decide) by responding the question: Do you think there will be an agreement to legalize immigrants?
