Telemundo Media & NBC premier ‘Education Nation’.

Telemundo presents special programing dedicated to the impact and importance of education among Hispanics this coming Sunday, May 20 and Monday, May 21 in association with NBC News’ “Education Nation in Miami.” Leveraging its nine-year old education initiative “El Poder de Saber,” the network will broadcast a special edition of Enfoque con Jose Diaz-Balart featuring top Hispanic experts on Sunday May 20 (12 p.m. ET/PT, 11 a.m. CT). In addition, Telemundo, Comcast and NBCUniversal will sponsor the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute “Education Forum,” one of the various activities taking place on Monday, May 21, under the Education Nation umbrella, and will air “Noticiero Telemundo con Jose Diaz-Balart” (6:30 p.m. ET/PT, 5 p.m. CT) will be broadcast from the Education Nation set at the New World Center in Miami Beach, FL.

Nine years ago, Telemundo launched “El Poder de Saber” across its multiple platforms to promote educational advancement of young Latinos and prevent high school drop-outs among Hispanic youth. “El Poder de Saber” is joining forces with NBC News for “Education Nation in Miami” May 18-21 – a series of events to be held at the New World Center in Miami Beach to bring together South Florida-area educators, elected officials, business leaders, parents and students to share information, exchange ideas and inspire change.

“Enfoque with Jose Diaz-Balart” will present a special edition on Sunday May 20 (12 p.m. ET/PT, 11 a.m. CT) dedicated to the importance of education in the Hispanic community, featuring exclusive interviews with Eduardo J. Padrón, Chairman of the White House Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans; Esther Aguilera, President & CEO of CHCI; Tony Plana, actor-director, educator and activist; and Wilmer Valderrama, actor and official spokesperson for Ready to Lead (R2L.)

On Sunday, May 20, 1 p.m.-2 p.m. ET, Telemundo 51/WSCV in Miami, will air a “Teacher Town Hall,” led by Rehema Ellis, NBC News Chief Education Correspondent, joined by Pam Giganti, NBC 6 News Anchor, and Ana Cuervo, Telemundo 51 News Reporter. The town hall will also be available as a live web stream from 1pm-3pm at www.educationnation.com.

On Monday, May 21, 3:30 p.m.-5 p.m. ET, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, supported by Comcast, NBCUniversal and Telemundo, will present an Education Forum titled “Keeping the Promise: Latino Education and the Emerging Role of Technology.” The panel will be moderated by Telemundo’s “Al Rojo Vivo” Reporter, Mary Gamarra. Among the distinguished panelists attending are Congressman Pedro Pierluisi; Sarita Brown, President, Excelencia in Education; Dr. José Vicente, President, Miami Dade College, North Campus; Jason A. Llorenz, Esq., Executive Director, the Hispanic Technology and Telecommunications Partnership; and Filemón Lopez, Senior Vice President of Strategic Operations at Comcast.

Later that evening, “Noticiero Telemundo con Jose Diaz-Balart” (6:30 p.m. ET/PT, 5:30 p.m. CT) will broadcast live from the New World Center. Diaz-Balart will later join NBC News’ Natalie Morales and NBC 6’s Diana Gonzalez to moderate “Job One: Preparing America to Compete in the 21st Century,” a panel discussion, including Hilda L. Solis, U.S. Secretary of Labor, gathering Florida’s leading business and civic leaders from 7:30pm-8:45pm.
