Telemundo Media announced it signed an overall exclusive content agreement with leading broadcaster and content producer Television Nacional de Chile (TVN). The deal includes the acquisition of exclusive U.S., Puerto Rico and Mexico rights for TVN’s entire novela scripts’ library across all media platforms. In addition, Telemundo Media renewed its global representation deal with TVN for five years, extending the long term relationship between the two leading broadcasters for five years. Financial terms were not disclosed.
“The expansion of our strategic alliance with TVN is key to Telemundo Media, as it provides an excellent source of original and innovative stories for our catalog and strengthens the network’s original programming in the United States,” said Marcos Santana, President of Telemundo Internacional. “This agreement is in line with our programming strategy of offering original productions based on a unique type of storytelling.”
Under the new agreement, Telemundo Media will have exclusive access to TVN’s highly-regarded telenovela scripts to be developed and produced by Telemundo Studios in Mexico or the U.S. In the past, Telemundo Studios has produced several highly-rated original novelas based on adaptations of TVN scripts including Donde Esta Elisa?, Alguien Te Mira and La Casa de al Lado, among others. Telemundo International has exclusively represented TVN Chile in the international market since 2006 having sold TVN’s original productions and formats such as El Laberinto de Alicia and Los Hijos del Monte around the world.
“We are delighted by Telemundo’s interest in our original telenovela scripts, which shows great confidence in the quality of our productions,” said Mauro Valdés, Executive Director of TVN. “This new agreement, together with the renewal of the distribution agreement, allows us to continue to strengthen our brand around the world through our stories and content. TVN is, by far, the largest producer of telenovelas in Chile and one of the largest in Latin America, with stories able to captivate not only the Chilean audience, but also viewers from different cultures. Our alliance with Telemundo has been essential to our efforts to position TVN Chile outside of our country.”
