Primetime Weekday: Through its joint ventures with Mexico’s Argos Television, Brazil’s TV Globo and Colombia’s Caracol TV and RTI, Telemundo’s primetime (Monday through Friday from 7:00PM to 11:00PM ET\PT) offers viewers over 1,000 original hours of riveting, entertaining and innovative novelas. The first of many novelas co-produced in Mexico by Argos Television and Telemundo is “Cara o Cruz,” which debuts on May 21, 2001 (9:00PM ET\PT). “Cara o Cruz” is a tale of double identities, betrayals and deception, in a contemporary novela where a woman’s fate is as predictable as the flip of a coin. “Piel Que Arde,” conjures up a world of emotional adversity, personal struggle, and the burning desire of people torn between two worlds. In “La Salamandra,” obsession, intrigue, and romance involving a mysterious black widow, is the basis of this suspenseful novela. From Colombia comes the sexy and dangerous world of auto racing. “Amor a Mil” is the story of a beautiful rich girl who aspires to be a racecar driver. Against the wishes of her powerful father, she falls in love with a tough mechanic (Manolo Cardona of “Por Que Diablos?”) who fuels her dream. “Pobre Pablo,” a warm and light-hearted romantic adventure is the story of a bodyguard who falls in love with a beautiful rich girl that he’s hired to protect. “Pedro el Escamoso” features the comical escapades of an overconfident wannabe Don Juan forced to leave his hometown for new beginnings in the big city. Brazil’s TV Globo delivers “Uga Uga,” a tale inspired by classic comic books, which follows the adventure of a boy raised in the jungle by Indians who returns to civilization as the rightful heir of his grandfather’s fortune. From acclaimed author Jorge Amado, “Puerto de los Milagros,” is an unforgettable saga of magic and wonder, a tale of good-twin evil-twin, envy, and triumph, in a place where miracles can happen. The passion and glamour of the turbulent years of WWII provide the setting in “Acuarela,” the story of a beautiful young singer who finds herself in an explosive love triangle with a handsome army officer and a debonair pianist (Thiago Lacerda of “Terra Nostra”).
New Reality Show: “Protagonistas” is Telemundo’s spin on reality programming in which twelve aspiring actors compete to win a starring role in a Telemundo produced novela. “Protagonistas” follows the lives of contestants, as they face original and exciting challenges and eliminations, determined by their fellow actors and the viewing audience.
New Animated Comedy and Dramedy Shows on Sunday Nights: Sunday night is devoted to original family programming with Telemundo’s comedy hour (7:00PM – 8:00PM ET\PT). Telemundo’s 52 weeks of rotating original series includes the first ever Spanish-language animated romantic comedy “Buscando a Rita.” The series features the adventures of José Gabriel and Rita, two very different Latin Americans, who travel to New York City and experience the “real” American dream. An enchanting and bewitching brew is created in the half-hour comedy “Mi Pequeña Mamá.” Starring Lorna Paz of the hit novela “Betty La Fea,” it is a tale of a mother and daughter who are reincarnated into each other’s bodies. The comedy “Popotes” features two bachelors living together in Mexico City, fighting for everyday survival and the beautiful young woman who moves into an apartment above them. Sunday night at 8:00PM (ET\PT) marks the debut of “Solterita y a la Orden,” a Telemundo produced dramedy with special appeal for young adults. This lighthearted and sophisticated series follows Eliza, and her beautiful, fun-loving, intelligent friends, who face the challenges of single life.
Saturday and Sunday Night Movies: “Cine del Sábado” (Saturdays at 9:00PM ET\PT) and “Cinemundo Premier” (Sundays at 9:00PM (ET\PT) continue to deliver Hollywood movies in primetime, featuring titles such as “Speed,” “True Lies,” “Big Daddy,” “Aliens,” “The Last of the Mohicans,” “Lethal Weapon 2,” “Gremlins,” “Home Alone 2,” and numerous other blockbusters. Telemundo’s new association with the Wonderful World of Disney, the premier name in family entertainment, will showcase 12 family-friendly adventures once a month on “El Maravilloso Mundo de Disney.” Telemundo will continue to present Latin American film classics, featuring screen legends such as Cantinflas and Vicente Fernández.
National News Now on Weekends: Network news programming continues to be a dominant force at Telemundo with bureaus around the globe. “Noticiero Telemundo,” the fastest-growing evening network newscast in total households, now expands to the weekends, providing the latest developments on major national and international news stories seven days a week (6:30PM ET\PT). Emmy Award winning anchors Pedro Sevcec and Maria Elvira Salazar, along with veteran journalist and anchor Ilia Calderón, and the most experienced team of news correspondents in Spanish-language television, will make Telemundo first in news among Hispanics, by bringing information, insight and compassion to the day’s newscast.
Weekday Morning and Afternoon Line Up: “Esta Mañana” (7:00-9:00AM ET\PT), the daily two-hour morning news and information program hosted by José Díaz- Balart and Gloria Calzada, continues to feature informative news and coast-to-coast coverage addressing the needs and interests of America’s diverse Spanish-speaking population. Building on the tremendous popularity of the novela genre, Telemundo expands its weekday morning program lineup with the new novela block from 9:00AM to 11:30AM (ET\PT), featuring passionate storylines. Every weekday live at noon, Mauricio Seilic and Graciela Mori treat viewers to the latest gossip, inside celebrity stories and interviews on “Cotorreando,” with the biggest and brightest international stars of novelas, music, film and television.
Early Fringe: Weekday afternoons follow with lively, challenging talk shows and real life courtroom dramas, each acting as a true moral compass for people from Hispanic communities seeking guidance and insight. When it comes to upholding the law and dispensing justice, Telemundo delivers a successful afternoon trilogy of courtroom drama. Through mediation and arbitration, the never-ending skirmishes of couple’s conflicts are presented and settled on “Sala de Parejas” (2:00PM ET\PT). “La Corte de la Familia” (3:00PM ET\PT) presents compelling, unique and thought-provoking family disputes from the Hispanic community, making it one of the highest-rated programs on Spanish-language television. At 3:30PM (ET\PT), Judge Manny resolves conflicts with sharp-tongued wisdom and impeccable common sense in “La Corte del Pueblo.” Dr. Laura Bozzo has taken the airwaves by storm with “Laura En América” (4:00PM ET\PT), a provocative, emotional and empowering one-hour forum that champions women’s issues. “Laura en America” has emerged in key markets as the highest-rated program in the time period in English or Spanish. Celebrating ten years of success after its debut as the first Spanish-language investigative newsmagazine, Emmy Award-winning “Ocurrió Así” (Monday through Friday at 5:00PM ET\PT), co-anchored by Ana Patricia Candiani and Candela Ferro, continues to deliver its revitalized and innovative approach to the cultural diversity of Spanish speakers everywhere with its coverage of current events, news and sports.
Weekend Children’s Block: Telemundo launches a brand new children’s block on Saturday and Sunday mornings: “Sábados de Fantasía” and “Domingos de Aventura” (7:00AM – 10:00AM ET\PT). The best in animation from Columbia TriStar will include “Jackie Chan Adventures,” the story of a secret agent who travels the globe in search of magical talismans; “Men In Black,” where aliens battle to take over the earth; “Max Steel,” the story of a University student who is accidentally thrown into the world of espionage; and “Dragon Tales,” the award winning PBS children’s series.
Telemundo Sports: Beginning in July 2001, Telemundo Sports is pleased to announce the return of live weekly broadcasts of Mexican League Soccer. As the official network of the Mexican National Soccer Team and in partnership with Major League Soccer, Telemundo delivers soccer coverage with its “Road to the World Cup Games,” with shows geared exclusively to live broadcasts on “Sábado de Fútbol” (Saturday at 4:00PM ET\PT) and “Fútbol Telemundo” (Sunday at 1:00PM (ET\PT). “Titulares Telemundo” (Saturday & Sunday at 11:00PM ET\PT) offers complete coverage on all major sports, including highlights, live feature stories and satellite interviews with the most important figures in the world of sports. “Boxeo Telemundo” delivers the most exciting and memorable live boxing events, and “Los Triunfadores” showcases true sports champions on and off the field with special editions throughout the year.
Music Specials: Telemundo also continues its incredible line-up of vibrant music and entertainment specials throughout the year featuring the most unforgettable and exciting Latin cultural events and celebrations. In March, “Calle Ocho” fires up the Latin beat of Miami with the sights and sounds of the largest street festival in the U.S. April reunites the biggest Latin artists of music and television at the prestigious “Billboard Latin Music Awards,” where Telemundo rolls out the red carpet to the spectacular gathering honoring the Latin music industry’s top artists and celebrities.
On weekends, the beat goes on with “IBuena Onda!,” a backstage look at the biggest names in Mexican regional music, offering viewers the most exciting and exclusive artist interviews, concert information, Billboard chart hits, music reviews and unplugged jam sessions. Showcasing the chart-topping rhythms and hit music videos, “Ritmo y Sabor” brings today’s kings and queens of Latin pop directly into the living rooms of fans across the U.S.
