NBC Universal has agreed to purchase Denver television station KDEN from Longmont Channel 25, Inc. and Longmont Broadcasting, LLC, strengthening the company’s Telemundo network coverage in the 16th largest U.S. Hispanic market. KDEN will be the 17th Spanish-language television station owned and operated by the NBC Universal Television Stations division. NBC Universal will formally assume ownership of the full-power station upon obtaining Federal Communications Commission approval of the transfer of KDEN’s license. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“The acquisition of KDEN demonstrates NBC Universal’s continued commitment to strengthen the local presence of the Telemundo Network in the country’s top Hispanic markets,” said Jay Ireland, President, NBC Universal Television Stations. “We’re pleased that through KDEN Telemundo is now better able to serve Denver’s vibrant Latino community.”
“We proudly welcome KDEN to the Telemundo family of television stations, and I am delighted that more viewers will be able to receive the quality Spanish-language news, sports, and entertainment programming they’ve come to expect from Telemundo,” said Don Browne, President of Telemundo. “Denver is a key and growing market, and I’m very pleased to announce this enhancement to our service in the region.”
Also announced was the appointment of Clara Rivas as KDEN’s Vice President and General Manager. Rivas, who assumes her new role immediately, will report to Ibra Morales, president of the Telemundo Television Stations.
Said Morales, “Clara is uniquely qualified to lead KDEN and oversee the new opportunities that come with running a full-power station. Having led our Denver affiliate for over a decade in the ’90s, she has a deep understanding of the market and close ties to the Hispanic community in Denver.”
Prior to this post Rivas was Vice President and General Manager at KVDA Telemundo in San Antonio, TX.
