Posting its best monthly performance ever during the month of March, Telemundo closed the 1st quarter of the year registering its strongest quarterly performance ever in Monday through Friday prime (M-F, 7-11 PM) among the coveted demos of adults 18-49 (A18-49) and adults 18-34 (A18-34).
1Q 2006 Highlights:
– Compared to the first quarter of last year (1Q’05) Telemundo’s primetime performance grew 34% in A18-49 with, averaging a 3.9 rating (789,000 viewers) with a 25% share of Spanish-language broadcast television.
– In A18-34 the network averaged 3.8 rating (476,000 viewers) with a 25% share of Spanish-language broadcast television in primetime; growing 46% versus last year.
– Telemundo attracted an additional 208,000 A18-49 viewers and 154,000 A18-34 viewers this quarter making it the only Spanish-language broadcast network with primetime growth over last year; while its competitors continue to lose viewership.
– Results solidify Telemundo’s position as the fastest growing broadcast network in both A18-49 and A18-34 in M-F prime.

March 2006 Highlights:
– In March ’06 Telemundo also posted its best monthly performance ever for M-F prime in A18-49 (801,000 viewers) and best March sweep performance ever in A18-34 (473,000 viewers).
– This month Telemundo M-F prime averaged a 3.9 rating and 27 share of Spanish-language broadcast television in A18-49, continuing the network’s growth trend with a 34% increase vs. Mar ’05 (2.9 rating) and 3% vs. Feb ’06 (3.8). Telemundo gained 9 share points over Mar ’05.
– Among A18-34 the network averaged a 3.8 rating, up 46% vs. Mar’05 (2.6 rating).
– In Mar ’06 Telemundo gained an additional 217,000 A18-49 viewers and 157,000 A18-34 viewers compared to Mar’05.
“We have seen quarter to quarter growth in the last four quarters as a direct result from the reorganization of our senior management team back in June of last year,” said Don Browne, President, Telemundo. “Having the expertise of top programming executives in-house has helped us strengthen our commitment to our original programming strategy and deliver results that once again confirm we’re on the right track as we move into the Upfront season”.
Some of the primetime highlights include:
“La Tormenta” delivered its strongest monthly performance to date averaging a 3.8 rating (769,000 viewers) in A18-49 and a 3.6 rating (449,000 viewers) in A18-34 in March ’06. Since its September 2005 premiere, “La Tormenta’s” ratings have increased 31% in A18-49 (3.8 vs. 2.9) and 33% in A18-34 (3.6 vs. 2.7). Compared to the prior year, “La Tormenta” has grown the time period 36% in A18-49 (vs. 2.8) and 50% in A18-34 (vs. 2.4)
Since its premiere in late February, “Tierra de Pasiones” is averaging a 4.1 rating (849,000 viewers) in A18-49 and 3.9 rating (495,000 viewers) in A18-34, accomplishing what no other 8PM novela ever has five weeks after its premiere. Compared to March ’05 “Tierra de Pasiones” has lifted the time period by 37% in A18-49 (3.0) and 56% in A18-34 (2.5).
“Corazon Partido” posted its best monthly delivery yet, growing to a 3.4 rating (684,000 viewers) in A18-49 and 3.2 rating (411,000 viewers) in A18-34 in March ’06. Compared to last month, “Corazon Partido” increased 21% in A18-49 (3.4 vs. 2.8) and 23% in A18-34 (3.2 vs. 2.6). The novela’s performance has also boosted the time period 21% in A18-49 and 28% in A18-34 vs. prior year.
At 9:30PM “Decisiones Casos Extraordinaros” also grew its ratings compared to last month and posted its best performance to date, averaging a 3.3 rating (673,000 viewers) in A18-49, up 6% vs. February ’06 (3.1), and a 3.3 rating (417,000 viewers) in A18-34, up 3% (vs. 3.2). Compared to the prior year, “Decisiones Casos Extraordinaros” increased the time period by18% in A18-49 (vs. 2.8) and 38% in A18-34 (vs. 2.4).
At 10PM “Decisiones” increased compared to all major benchmarks including last month, last year, and its premiere month. Among A18-49 “Decisiones” garnered a 4.2 rating (856,000 viewers) growing 8% vs. last month (3.9) and 56% vs. its October ’05 premiere and a year ago time period (2.7). Among the younger A18-34 demo “Decisiones” exhibited impressive growth, averaging a 4.2 rating (529,000 viewers), up 2% vs. last month (4.1), 56% vs. its October ’05 premiere (2.7) and 68% vs. the year ago time period (2.5).
