Telemundo receives Sentinel for Health Award.

Telemundo was honored with the prestigious Sentinel for Health Award, last night, in a ceremony hosted by the Hollywood Health and Society project at the Writer’s Guild of America in Los Angeles. The network was honored for its groundbreaking diabetes awareness health campaign and for its innovative and seamless incorporation of the initiative into the plot of Telemundo’s originally-produced novela ‘Amarte Así’.

“We are honored to have received this recognition,” said Don Browne, President, Telemundo. “We are always looking for new ways of incorporating relevant content that will inspire and empower our communities through our programming.”

This is the second Sentinel for Health Award for Telemundo, as the network became the first Hispanic media organization ever to receive this high honor last year for its breast cancer awareness campaign. The health awareness campaign is a continuous effort by Telemundo’s Programming Department, which works in conjunction with the Hollywood Health and Society, among other organizations, to gather information for its writers. After conducting extensive research on the topics that are of most relevance and importance to the Hispanic community, the network places its best efforts in highlighting the issues that can provide a positive message and service to its audience embedded in its programming.

A joint project of the renowned USC Annenberg Norman Lear Center, the Centers for Disease control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the Hollywood Health and Society provides entertainment professionals with accurate and timely information for health storylines, including free consultations and briefings with CDC and NCI experts. The Sentinel for Health Awards recognizes exemplary achievements in television storylines that inform, educate, and motivate viewers to make choices for healthier and safer lives.
