Telemundo Scores Another ‘GOOOOL’.

Known for his famous “Goal” call, Andrés Cantor (Deportes Telemundo’s Sports Anchor) will be honored with the 2004 Broadcasting & Cable / Multichannel News Lifetime Achievement Award in Hispanic Television during their Hispanic Television Summit being held at The Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City December 6-8.

Cantor’s Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented by Group Publisher Chuck Bolkcom for his contributions to the world of sports, especially soccer, and to the growth and development of Hispanic Television within the United States.

One of the most recognizable personalities in the world of sports, Cantor currently serves as one of the main sports anchors of Deportes Telemundo. He was recently named by Sports Illustrated magazine as “Master of the Mic: Best of the Rest” in soccer. During Athens 2004 Olympic Games, he served as one of the main hosts of Telemundo’s coverage alongside Jessi Losada. He has been described as a key figure in the growing awareness of soccer in the United States, and has received international recognition for his work, including being named “Sports Personality of the Year” in 1994 by the American Sportscaster Association. That same year he was also awarded an EMMY for individual achievement for his play-by-play coverage of the World Cup. Andrés also takes part and supports charitable causes including the Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards.
