Telemundo sustains ratings growth in July 2006 sweeps.
July 8, 2006
Telemundo announced it continues to deliver ratings growth during the latest July 2006 sweeps period. According to data provided by Nielsen Media Research, Telemundo is the only Spanish-language broadcaster to deliver growth in the highly coveted Monday-Friday primetime slot (M-F, 7-11PM) over last July. This latest performance marks ten consecutive months of year-to-year growth; making Telemundo the fastest growing broadcast network among Hispanics in two leading demos, Adults 18-49 (A18-49) and Adults 18-34 (A18-34).
This July’s performance results come amid heightened interest in the network due to the last two quarter’s record breaking ratings results. “July’s performance proves once again that Telemundo’s commitment to quality, relevant, original programming is paying off,” said Don Browne, President of Telemundo. “Ten consecutive months of year-to-year growth is clear evidence that our audience is responding to our efforts.”
Among A18-49 Telemundo delivered a 3.4 rating (687,000 viewers), a 36% growth over last July 2005 during its weekday primetime slot. This viewership constitutes a 25% share of the audience tuning-in to one of the three major Spanish-language broadcast networks. Among the younger set (A18-34), Telemundo posted a 3.1 rating (393,000 viewers), a 29% increase over last July.
All of Telemundo’s weekday primetime programs delivered solid increases among A18-49 in July 2006:
* With the finale of the novela “La Tormenta” and the premier of “La Viuda de Blanco”, the 7 pm time period experienced 33% increase in viewership this year vs. last year.
*At 8pm “Tierra de Pasiones” averaged a 3.5 rating or 719,000 viewers, increasing the time period by 17% from one year ago.
*”Amores de Mercado” at 9 pm averaged a 3.0 or 608,000 viewers, gaining 25% vs. the prior year’s average.
*At 10pm “Decisiones” achieved a 61% increase in ratings compared to last year with a 3.7 rating or 760,000 viewers tuning in.
