Telemundo To Use English Sub-Titles.

Telemundo announced, that for the first time ever, they will be broadcasting their new shows premiering on September 8th at 7 PM and 8 PM ET/PT with English captions on CC1.

The new shows ‘La Cenicienta’, an original reality series where romance and “telenovela” intertwine, and ‘Amor Descarado’ a novela that is a real lighthearted romantic comedy are expected to be big hits with Telemundo’s Spanish speaking audience as well as with U.S. Hispanics that are primarily English dominant. For Spanish language hearing impaired viewers, the closed captioning can be found on CC3.

President and CEO of Telemundo, Jim McNamara, said, “We expect these shows are going to appeal to all U.S. Hispanics. With two channels of close captioning, we’re serving the Spanish language hearing impaired as well as the U.S. Hispanics that speak some Spanish but predominantly English.”

In 1976, the FCC reserved line 21 of the VBI for closed captioning. Since mid-1993, all television sets 13″ and larger have been required to have caption. If a TV is newer than that, viewers can press the “CC” button on their remote or choose “captioning” from the on-screen menu, and watch the program audio rendered as text on the screen.
