Telemundo WNJU-TV In New York In Growth Mode.

With the conclusion of the February 2003 rating period by Nielsen Media Research, WNJU/Telemundo 47 posts the most audience growth of any New York television station. Using the NSI Nielsen measurement, Telemundo 47 demonstrates phenomenal growth in the station’s key time periods, most notably in the early morning newscast, the 6 p.m. news and the Mon-Fri 2-6 p.m. block.
On a sign-on to sign-off basis, WNJU comes in at a record 1.2 rating 3 share, up 20% over last February’s 5 a.m. – 2 a.m. average, posting the largest audience gain of any station in the New York television market.
At 6 p.m., “Noticiero 47” posts a record Mon-Fri 2.5 rating 4 share, up 92% over February 2002, which is the largest viewer increase for any 6 p.m. newscast. The 6 p.m. news beat the newscast on WNYW (1.7/3). “Noticiero 47 Noche @ 11 p.m.” was up 7% to 1.5/3.
“Al Rojo Vivo,” Telemundo’s new 5 p.m. news magazine had a terrific February book, posting a 2.7/5, a 59% increase year-to-year. “Al Rojo Vivo” beat Univision’s well-established “Primer Impacto” (2.5/5), the 5 p.m. news on WNYW (1.5/3) and is nipping at the heels of WCBS’ 5 p.m. news (2.8/5).
All five of Telemundo 47’s afternoon/early fringe programs posted record ratings in February 2003. “Sala de Parejas” at 2 p.m. was up 82% year-to-year to a 2.5 rating, beating such general market programming as WNYW’s “John Edward” (1.5/4), and WWOR’s “Married With Children” and “Third Rock from the Sun” (1.2/3).
The Telemundo court shows “Corte Familia” and “Corte de Pueblo” from 3 – 4 p.m. were up 100% to a 2.6 rating, beating the court shows on WNYW, the game shows on WWOR and the programming on WXTV.
“Laura” at 4 p.m. was up 41% to a new high of a 3.1 rating 7 share and ahead of the programming on WNYW, WWOR and WXTV.
In Primetime, “La Venganza,” the 9 p.m. Telemundo novela is proving especially popular. Its 3.1 rating beat the novela on Univision and has increased 13% in rating over its January premiere. Telemundo 47’s Sunday night newsmagazine “Sin Fronteras,” also shows great growth, up 90% to a 2.1 rating.
In their first February sweep, the four weekend newscasts (Sat-Sun, 6P & 11P) all had triple digit gains over the same time period last year and were up versus November 2002, their first major sweep.
The dynamic one-two punch of “Laura” and “Al Rojo Vivo” in late night pushed WNJU over WXTV for top honors. Both programs posted large increases versus February 2002. “Laura” notched a 1.9 rating 4 share at 11:30 p.m., up 9% vs. last year and out delivering programming on WNYW and WWOR. “Al Rojo Vivo” at 12:30 a.m. was up 9% to a 0.8 rating. ”
