Telemundo’s Sin Fronteras Receives Dalton Pen Award.
March 25, 2005
Telemundo’s Sin Fronteras (Sundays, 7pm/6pm c), the network’s outstanding newsmagazine show, has won a prestigious Dalton Pen Award for “Excellence-Newscast,” the most coveted award in broadcast journalism.
The Dalton Pen Communications Awards program is a prestigious, international evaluation forum, designed to recognize outstanding projects in the communications field. Sin Fronteras was singled out for its remarkable efforts in highlighting compelling news stories for US Hispanics. The show’s performance demonstrates the audience is also picking Sin Fronteras as one of their favorite newsmagazine shows in Spanish-language TV. During this year’s first quarter, the show has shown solid growth among adults 18-49 (A18-49) with an average rating of 2.4; a 14% increase, compared to the first quarter of 2004. Sin Fronteras has also grown +16% in the younger Adult 18-34 demographic (2.2 vs. 1.9) while total viewers (P2+) increased +30% compared to the same period last year.
Other Telemundo News programs are also delivering great performance, among them Noticiero Telemundo (M-F 6:30pm / 5:30pm c), which has garnered double digit rating increases during the first quarter of 2005. Compared to the same period last year, Noticiero Telemundo experienced a ratings increase among A18-49 (+10%), women 18-49 (+16%), males 18-49 (+10%), and A18-34 (+33%). Total viewers (P2+) to the weekday network newscast also showed a +28% increase in the 1st quarter of 2005 compared to the same period last year.
“I wish to extend my deepest gratitude to everyone in the Telemundo News division for their professional achievements”, said Joe Peyronnin, Executive Vice President of News, Telemundo. “Telemundo news programming is experiencing strong momentum as a result of our commitment to bring Hispanics stories of great importance to them.”
Additionally, Telemundo’s red-hot TV personality and renowned journalist, Maria Celeste Arrarás (Al Rojo Vivo con María Celeste, M-F at 5pm / 4c), will be honored with an Emmy Award for lifetime achievement at the first ever Hispanic Emmys this coming June.
