Telemundo’s TPLUS expands programming slate to premiere on Peacock

NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises announced new shows under its Tplus content brand coming to Peacock, including Madres. Amor y Vida, La Verdad, and Los Relojes de Diablo. The three scripted shows join Tplus’ slate through a distribution agreement with Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group and add to the growing list of titles under the Tplus brand. The agreement represents a new partnership, and the first commercial agreement between the two companies to date.

Tplus’ intial programming slate will launch on Peacock’s premium tier later this year, featuring programming for the full spectrum of Hispanics, with a focus on 200%ERS® – audiences who are 100% American, and 100% Latino. Last month, Tplus previewed a number of scripted and unscripted programs coming to Peacock created in partnership with top-name talent and leading forces in Latino entertainment content, as well as initial streaming plans for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

“With so many Tplus titles in development, we’re excited to announce even more shows coming to Peacock today,” said Romina Rosado, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Hispanic Streaming, NBC Universal Telemundo Enterprises. “Tplus is about cultivating an underserved audience of U.S. Latinos and recognizing the cultural fluidity of global Hispanic audiences today. We’re excited to work with the best partners around the world to create the singular home for content that resonates with the growing segment of 200%ERS.”

Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group is the distribution sale and production arm of Mediaset España, Spain’s largest media company and owner of the free-to-air TV channel Telecinco, which has ended 2021 for the tenth consecutive year as the most viewed channel in Spain. The company employs a robust in-house production model, which has made it one of Spain’s largest content creators and producers, and an in-demand partner for leading entertainment platforms globally. Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group showcases a wide range of content across production companies including Telecinco Cinema, Alea Media, Producciones Mandarina, La Fábrica de la Tele, Bulldog TV, Alma Producciones, Fénix Media, Megamedia, Supersport and ElDesmarque.

New titles added to Tplus content slate include:

  • In Madres. Amor y vida, the life and death reality of a hospital maternity ward is only the beginning of this powerful new dramatic series following the relationships and conflicts of a group of women whose children are receiving treatment. An unflinching chronicle of motherhood, the women all have much in common: their lives have been upended to focus on the recovery of their children and they have established a special bond of camaraderie in the face of uncertainty.
  • La Verdad explores the psychology of a family pushed to the limit. Eight years after her mysterious disappearance, 17-year-old Paula García returns to her family fold, sparking further intrigue about what happened to her. La Verdad tells the love story between a policeman and the mysterious young woman while, in parallel, criminal and journalistic investigations unfold to uncover the truth behind the mysterious García case.
  • In today’s complex world of crime and punishment, choosing the right side may not always be the best idea. In the series Los Relojes del Diablo, marine mechanic Gianfranco Franciosi, is enlisted by local police to help infiltrate an international drug trafficking ring, but soon finds the noble act proves to only disrupt and endanger his life. Inspired by a true story and shot across Italy, Spain and Belgium, the series recreates the dangerous odyssey lived by the protagonist.

Tplus builds on Telemundo’s legacy of premium content and decade-long success providing original Latino titles to direct-to-consumer platforms. The full list of released titles, including complete descriptions from the January announcement are available here, including details about the following:

  • Genta Sana, a docuseries featuring J Balvin created in partnership between Exile Content Studio and NBC News Studios
  • Young at Heart, a bold new reality experiment sparked by the current trend of “age-gap” couples
  • Mysteries & Scandals (working title), an in-depth investigative series with Stephen Land’s A3 focusing on newsworthy and impactful stories in Latino pop culture
  • Messi, a documentary on the sports icon and fútbol superstar from acclaimed director Álex de la Iglesia, among others.

The initial Tplus programming slate and additional titles in development are anchored on the type of content that has performed best for Telemundo, NBCUniversal and the industry overall in streaming platforms among U.S. Hispanics. According to a recent Horowitz research study, Latinos are super streamers with 8 out of 10 households subscribing to at least one SVOD service. On average, Latino consumers are 14 years younger than the non-Hispanic white population. Driven by streaming video consumption, they spend more time per day on video through TV connected devices and video focused app usage than total adults.
