Televisión Dominicana & Cinelatino team up to televised Dominican Day Parade Celebration

Televisión Dominicana has teamed up with sister network Cinelatino to honor the Dominican Day Parade with a televised “parade” of popular films from the Dominican Republic. Starting on Saturday, August 8, at 3 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. PT on Televisión Dominicana and continuing on Sunday, August 9, at 7 a.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on Cinelatino, the event, dubbed Parada de Cine Dominicano, pays homage to the directors, talent and culture of the Caribbean country, and celebrates what it means to be Dominican.

Televisión Dominicana and Cinelatino have reimagined the 38th annual Dominican Day Parade, using television as the medium for this year’s celebration. The networks will air a slate of the island nation’s biggest and most popular box offices hits, with titles including Cinderelo, Mi Suegra y Yo, Todas Las Mujeres Son Iguales, Los Domirriqueños, Colao, Tubérculo Gourment, and La Gunguna plus the exclusive U.S. TV premiere of Los Paracaidistas, Todos Los Hombres Son Iguales and El Fantasma De Mi Novia. The films feature Dominican icons like Charityn Goyco, Nashla Bogaert, Frank Perozo, and Fausto Mata with special appearances by international stars such as William Levy, Carmen Villalobos, Miguel Rodarte, and Christian Meier.

Raymond Pozo and Miguel Céspedes, the Caribbean nation’s most beloved comedians known by the well-deserved moniker “the Dominican kings of comedy,” will present the televised event. The pair, fixtures of the New York City parade in recent years, star in the massively popular program El Show de Raymond & Miguel, which airs exclusively on Televisión Dominicana. The show enjoys a huge and loyal following within the Dominican community both at home and abroad.

“The Dominican Republic has been one of the Caribbean countries most deeply impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of this, we wanted to ensure that this culturally important moment was properly acknowledged and celebrated in an authentic way. The current situation has been undoubtedly difficult for everyone, and these historic times we are experiencing have forced all of us to find new, out-of-the-box solutions for myriad situations, not least of which is the observance of special moments and occasions,” said Francisco Gimenez, senior vice president and general manager of cable channels for Hemisphere Media Group, Inc., the network’s parent company. “The parade serves as an important platform for the Dominican community, helping to amplify their heritage and impact. We hope to bring some of that cultural joy and pride straight to their living rooms through this new effort.”
