Terra Órbita 2009 Conference.

Órbita 2009, the annual conference hosted by Terra took place last week in São Paulo, Brazil. Bringing together the biggest names in entertainment, media and Internet technology, Órbita 2009 tackled questions related to the digital revolution and presented Terra’s latest partnerships and projects.

Special Guests. VIPs included television star Kate Walsh, film director Gavin Hood and digital media expert Matthew Fraser of INSEAD. Walsh discussed the success of her character Dr. Addison Montgomery on “Grey’s Anatomy,” which generated the spin-off “Private Practice.” Hood, best known for “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and the Oscar-winning “Tsotsi,” commented on the importance of the Internet to new filmmakers, film piracy, fan interaction and his excitement for the World Soccer Championship in his native South Africa. In addition, Fraser delivered a speech on the increased usage of sites like MySpace, Orkut and Twitter, and their impact on social relationships, companies, the press and governments.

Exclusive Sports Coverage. Following its record-breaking success covering 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, Terra will again provide its users with live and exclusive broadcasting at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. Likewise, the portal will also host coverage of the World Soccer Championships from a specially-built studio in South Africa.

Atom Project. A new social networking tool, the tBox, and groundbreaking advertising formats were revealed at Órbita 2009 as the most recent additions to the Atom Project-a $7 million (USD), year-long overhaul of Terra.com. Thus far, the Atom Project has proven to be a huge success for Terra, effectively integrating the user experience with the portal.

“In just seven months of the Atom Project, we have seen an increase of 35 percent in traffic to Terra.com. We are very pleased with the results and promise Terra won’t stop. As long as the digital revolution continues, we’ll keep investing and inventing to be a leader in digital media,” said Fernando Madeira, Chief Executive Officer, Terra Latin America.
The tBox tool will allow users to incorporate their various social networks and mailboxes into a single, user-friendly location. “tBox will allow friends to connect and update their profiles without logging off and on of their individual social networks,” explained Alexandre Cardoso, Marketing Director, Terra Latin America. “This represents a powerful resource for Internet users to manage their online social life.”
