Terra winner at GLAAD Awards.

The 18th Annual GLAAD Media Awards recognized individuals and projects in Spanish-language mainstream media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives.

One of only five awards presented on stage, went to Andres Fortuño, an executive producer and journalist at Terra.com. Fortuño won the “Outstanding Digital Journalism Award” for his article, “Too Young to Be Gay” http://www.terra.com/vidablue/articulo/html/vid281.htm>. Ana Maria Polo, Spanish-language TV’s equivalent of “Judge Judy” announced the winner. Andres beat out two entries from Univision.com, one from bbcmundo.com and a second article he penned for Terra.com titled, “Sex in the 21st Century.” Fortuño was the only media representative with two nominations. Extensive coverage from the ceremony, including photo galleries, will be posted on Terra.com.

“This tribute is a testament to Terra Network’s commitment to diversity,” stated Fortuño when he accepted his award. “When people ask me about GLAAD, I say it’s the equivalent to the Oscars in the gay world.”

Fortuño joined Terra Networks four years ago and was instrumental in introducing readers to LGBT content. Today, Terra remains the only U.S. Hispanic portal with a dedicated gay channel. Although Terra.com has had a gay channel since 2005, Terra launched Todo Gay in April 2007 as an independent portal within its U.S. service, www.TodoGay.com, also accessible at www.terra.com/todogay. Todo Gay features content in both English and Spanish.
