Thelma Abril – GSM & NSM @ Telemundo Tucson.

Thelma Abril with KHRR-TV40 Telemundo has been promoted to General Sales Manager/National Sales Manager for the Tucson station. Araceli De León, Vice President and General Manager for both Telemundo stations in Arizona made the announcement on April 14, 2003. The Telemundo Station Group continues to be proactive as it develops a strong management team for both Telemundo stations, KHRR in Tucson and KDRX in Phoenix since the network’s acquisition of the Spanish language television stations in January 2003.

Abril joined Telemundo KHRR/Tucson in June of 2001 as Local Sales Manager, leaving Univision’s KUVE/Tucson where she served as Station Manager. “Thelma has demonstrated a strong leadership style and marked performance as Tucson’s Local Sales Manager,” said De León. “I have every confidence that she will embrace her additional responsibilities and take the station to the next level.” Working closely with Tucson managers, Abril is charged with developing new national sales business and implementing strategies to increase the share of national dollars to the Tucson station.

Abril is very active in the Tucson community, with over twelve years of media sales experience. She serves as President of American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT), Tucson Chapter; is a member of the Board with the Girls Scouts Sahuaro Council and an invited member of Women at the Top, a local businesswomen’s group. “I enjoy taking an active role within an organization to better serve the Tucson community,” said Abril. “I believe that as an owned and operated station of NBC/Telemundo we have the tools and resources to better serve an advertiser with market research, buyer trends and consumer spending habits that specifically address the Spanish-speaking market.”
