Time Warner Cable Partners with CHCI to Promote STEM Careers for Latino Youth.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) and Time Warner Cable (TWC) announced a new partnership to add STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) interns to CHCI’s nationally acclaimed Congressional Internship Program for the 2010 summer internship session. The deadline for applicants to apply at www.chci.org is February 5, 2010.

CHCI and TWC are aggressively moving to educate young Latinos in important public policy issues relevant to the STEM fields, as the growth in STEM-related careers is expected to double in the next ten years.

The CHCI Congressional Internship Program (CIP) provides college students with Congressional work placements on Capitol Hill to learn first-hand about our nation’s legislative processes. Interns are responsible for conducting extensive legislative research, monitoring day-to-day hearings, managing constituent communications and assisting with general office matters. Additionally, interns participate in weekly CHCI leadership and professional development sessions and meet with corporate representatives, national elected officials and foreign dignitaries.

Applicants applying for CHCI STEM internships must be “STEM” majors in school and should have interest in public policy. Additional components of the STEM Internship in partnership with TWC will include visits to TWC offices in Herndon, VA, Washington, D.C., and possibly New York City.

In 2009, the CIP was named one of the Top Twenty Leadership Programs for Latinos by Latino Leaders magazine. To be eligible, all program applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents, have remarkable leadership potential, and have a demonstrated history and commitment to community and public service.
