TodoBebe’s – Tips For Hispanic Moms Balancing Motherhood & Work.
April 13, 2003
More and more Hispanic mothers work outside from home, which causes struggles between their professional and personal life. According to TodoBebe’s most recent online survey, 57% of more than 5,700 respondents from the United States, Mexico, Latin America and Spain find it hard to combine their job with motherhood. Over 56% said that if they could, they would quit their jobs to stay at home.
When asked about what was most important to them, 52 percent of moms said that enjoying more quality time with their kids was their priority. Almost 35% answered that balancing work and family was a primary concern.
“It is not easy to juggle the roles of homemaker, professional and wife or partner,” explained psychologist and family therapist Hereri Contreras Basurto, who is from Mexico originally. “This can cause much stress in women and leaves them with the feeling that they cannot fulfill all their responsibilities, “ she said.
Tips for working moms
* Show special interest in what’s important to your kids – their friends, hobbies and abilities.
* Make a list of priorities, organize yourself and accept help whenever you can
* Don’t feel that you’re a worse mom by working; think instead of the good things your family enjoys thanks to your efforts
* Find ways to make your children feel special: leave messages on their pillows, in their lunchboxes o wherever you know they might find them.
* Mark on a calendar important dates such as birthdays, school meetings or dentist appointments.
“These tips help children feel loved and that’s the most important thing for them,” said psychologist Hereri Contreras.
