Univision Radio announced the launch of “Tu Voz en Washington,” a national weekly Sunday morning public affairs and open microphone program which will air live on Sundays from 11:00 AM to 12 Noon (ET) on RadioCadena Univision, Univision Radio’s AM Network. “Tu Voz en Washington” will be moderated by veteran Univision Network News Washington Correspondent Lourdes Meluzá and will originate from Univision Network’s Washington News Bureau. RadioCadena Univision can be heard in ten markets including Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Chicago and Las Vegas.
Each Sunday, “Tu Voz en Washington” will include in-depth interviews with national and international political leaders, newsmakers, and civic leaders with a focus on current events, news happenings, and topics affecting U.S. Hispanics and U.S. policy toward Latin America. The show will include an open microphone segment during which callers from across the country can ask questions and offer opinions on these topics.
“We are confident that ‘Tu Voz en Washington’ will quickly become an important platform for Hispanics to be informed about and address important issues affecting their lives,” stated McHenry T. Tichenor, Jr., President of Univision Radio. “We are very proud to launch our very first Sunday morning national public affairs program, and thrilled that it will benefit from Lourdes Meluza’s professionalism and credibility,” added Tichenor.
Meluzá, who joined Univision Television Network sixteen years ago, will be adding the moderation of “Tu Voz” to her current duties. Since 1993, she has been a national correspondent in Washington covering the White House, Congress and agencies with a focus on issues affecting U.S. Hispanics. After September 11th, she was also assigned to cover national security issues. She has traveled extensively in her coverage of major international stories, including the fall of Communism in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe and the Pope’s visit to Cuba. Prior to moving to Washington, Meluzá was a reporter for Univision’s Miami station WLTV Channel 23. Prior to joining Channel 23, Meluzá spent five years as a reporter for the Miami Herald’s Spanish edition. Meluzá is a graduate of the University of Miami School of Communications.
“The launch of ‘Tu Voz en Washington,’ a timely and much-needed radio program looking at how Hispanics are affected by what’s going on in Washington and the world, is cause for celebration. Millions of Latinos get their news and information from Univision and we are heartened that the company is further enhancing its role as a critical source of information for the community,” stated Raul Yzaguirre, President of the National Council of La Raza.
“I am extremely excited to join Univision Radio as it continues to engage its dedicated audience with the launch of this culturally relevant program,” stated Meluzá. “Tu Voz en Washington” presents an unprecedented opportunity for Univision Radio to connect our nations’ leaders with the rapidly growing and extremely influential U.S. Hispanic population.”
