Even in the digital age, reading tops the list.

US consumers say their favorite leisure activities are reading, watching TV and spending time with friends and family, according to The Harris Poll.

Computer activities were named fourth most favorite, although the percentage of respondents listing it as a favorite has increased slightly in the last seven years.

As reported previously, the Internet captures almost one-half of broadband users’ spare time. Media-Screen has also noted that more that one-quarter of broadband users’ online activities are for leisure.

The Harris Poll also examined the number of hours spent working and leisure.

The average respondent spent a median of 45 hours working per week in 2007, down from 50 hours in 2004. The median amount of time available for leisure stood at 20 per week in 2007, up slightly from the median of 19 hours per week in 2004.
