TV Azteca’s ‘La Academia’ Ends its First Season.
November 5, 2002
TV Azteca, S.A. de C.V. announced that its musical reality show, La Academia, ended its first season with a gala at the Auditorio Nacional that broke all expectations.
The final concert was given to a sold-out audience in Latin America’s most important concert hall as five finalists gave it their all in a performance that was only equaled by the broadcast’s television audience share during the five-hour transmission.
“Eight out of ten televisions that were turned on last night were receiving the signal from channel 13 as winners were announced. The Auditorio Nacional and all of Mexico opened their hearts to five finalists who thrilled audiences with exceptional performances that made television history,” said Pedro Padilla, Chief Executive Officer of TV Azteca. “This great success, the culmination of more five months of intense work, wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of every area of TV Azteca, a team that has only one objective: to produce the best Spanish-speaking television in the world.” La Academia’s second generation commenced transmissions this Monday.
The event was also transmitted live to 17 US markets, covering 42% of the Hispanic population, through Azteca America. With a similar success to Mexico’s, La Academia has become a favorite for viewers in the United States, where La Academia members had a similar reception during a sold-out concert in Los Angeles on November 20.
