Unicine Scores Gooool!

Unicine, a division of Univision Communications, has secured the #1 position on the Spanish-language sales charts for two weeks straight with the FIFA FEVER World Cup DVD, outselling its closest competitor by + 20% according to Nielsen VideoScan (week ending June 4 & June 11, 2006). The collector’s edition DVD is the ultimate compilation of FIFA World Cup’s greatest moments in the last 100 years. “FIFA Fever: Copa Mundial de la FIFA 100 Años de Clásicos” was launched under the Unicine label on May 9th and has remained among the top three best sellers since then, outselling blockbuster titles such as “Motorcycles Diaries” and “Y Tu Mama Tambien”; and even hit novelas such as “Amor Real” and “Rubi.”

The two-disc collector’s item is produced by FIFA and Unicine and features 100 years of breathtaking soccer action including greatest goals, saves, free-kicks, games, players, and bloopers. Unicine added Latin passion to the product with a voiceover from renowned commentator Fernando Schwartz, from Univision Radio and Galavisión, and culturally relevant music. The FIFA World Cup DVD also includes an English-language track.

“This is a must-have for anyone that has an appreciation for soccer,” notes Schwartz. “In my 30 years of World Cup broadcast experience, I have not come across a product as comprehensive and exciting as this two-disc set. FIFA and Unicine have put together the biggest and best moments in World Cup history for us to relive over and over again,” he said.

The DVD was released one month prior to the start of the 2006 World Cup and Univision is already posting record-breaking audience figures for this year’s live broadcast.
