Univision 41 & WADO 1280 co-sponsor Citizenship Information Campaign.
April 1, 2007
Univision 41 (WXTV) and WADO 1280 AM Radio have joined forces as co-sponsors of “Citizenship Now,” a telephone hotline information service for persons seeking US citizenship. In “Citizenship Now,” New York’s premier Spanish-language TV station and its co-owned Univision Radio outlet are joining the City University of New York and the New York Daily News as sponsors of the hotline which will be open Monday, April 30 through Friday, May 4, 9 am through 7 pm.
“Noticias Univision 41” (Univision 41 News) “action” reporter Berenice Gartner, whose “A Tu Lado” (On Your Side) pieces frequently cover immigration, will report on “Citizenship Now” live each night on the 6 pm “Noticias Univision 41” all week.
Callers to 212-330-6506 will have benefit of roughly 180 experts including immigration attorneys and counselors who, it is believed, will serve up to 20,000 or more persons. If experience is a guide, some 40 percent of them are likely to be without legal status in the US.
The choice of the first week of May for Citizenship Now is highly significant. Immigrants are expected to demonstrate nationwide for a smoother legal US residence.
