Univision and HSF partner to ensure every Hispanic household has a college degree.

Univision Communications Inc. and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) will partner on efforts to ensure every Hispanic household has a college degree.  Announced today at the HSF’s inaugural Education Summit, this partnership will focus on leveraging both organizations’ assets, experience and core competencies to achieve HSF’s ambitious goal.

“For 35 years the Hispanic Scholarship Fund has been instrumental in helping increase the opportunities for Latino students to understand, and have access to higher education opportunities,” said Cesar Conde, president, Univision Networks. “Today, as one out of every five K-12 student in the United States is Hispanic, achieving this goal is vitally important to the future of our country. As we looked at aligning with an organization that would help us take Es El Momento to the next level, it was critical that we further aligned with HSF to be sure we leverage our core competencies to have a greater impact.”

For Univision, the partnership is part of Univision’s Es El Momento (The Moment Is Now) multi-year, multi-platform education initiative launched in February 2010. Univision continues to expand its partnerships to better serve its audiences. Most recently, Univision also announced strategic collaborations with NASA, Excelencia in Education, Change the Equation and Get Schooled to ensure that these efforts and organizations effectively address the needs of Hispanic students in the United States.

“For HSF it is critical that we create these partnerships that allow us to create awareness, further engage with our audiences and most importantly maximize touch points for our efforts,” said Frank Alvarez, president & CEO, Hispanic Scholarship Fund. “Univision’s Es El Momento education initiative, as well as the relationship and reach Univision has with its audience, will be critical in helping us meet our goal of having a college degree in every Hispanic household.”

As part of the partnership, Univision will tap HSF’s higher education subject experts for new elements of Es El Momento; work with HSF to identify alumni, students and parents for news stories and segments; leverage HSF’s print and online bilingual resources to use at education focused events;  and link to www.hsf.net on www.eselmomento.com.  Univision will work with HSF to ensure initiatives, activities and resources are promoted and leveraged across its television, radio and digital platforms; produce PSAs to promote HSF’s existing resources; and work together on local event development.  In addition, Univision and HSF will collaborate on helping expand scholarship opportunities.

Es El Momento is Univision’s comprehensive, multi-platform, three-year national education initiative aimed at improving academic achievement among K-12 Hispanic students. This effort has a specific focus on increasing rates of high school graduation, college readiness, college completion and engaging Hispanic parents and the broader community in these efforts. The Spanish-language campaign will be conducted in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the U.S. Department of Education, community, education and civil rights groups from around the country.
