Univision announces nominees for Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina

The superstar nominees for the 2014 edition of Univision’s “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina” (Lo Nuestro Latin Music Awards) were revealed during a star-studded broadcast of Univision Network’s top-rated morning show, “Despierta América” (Wake Up America). With contenders in 33 different categories across four music genres – Pop, Tropical, Regional Mexican, and Urban– the list includes the biggest names in today’s Latin recording industry, many of which are vying for multiple awards. The 26th Annual “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina” ceremony will be broadcast LIVE from the American Airlines Arena in Miami on Thursday, February 20, 2014 on the Univision Network.

Four world-famous Hispanic megastars with very different music styles are tied for the most nominations this year, each receiving five: Spanish pop singer/songwriter Alejandro Sanz, a perennial hit-maker for the past two decades; Colombian neo-vallenato artist Carlos Vives, who is enjoying a phenomenal comeback after several years away from the limelight; best-selling tropical recording artist and crossover star Marc Anthony, whose latest single, “Vivir Mi Vida,” has shot to the top of the music charts and just won a Latin GRAMMY®; and Dominican-American bachata idol Prince Royce, who was last year’s biggest “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina” winner. In addition to being nominated in different categories within their music genres, including Song of the Year and Male Artist of the Year, Sanz and Prince Royce are competing for the show’s top award, Artist of the Year, along with Regional Mexican group Calibre 50, reggaeton artist Don Omar, and Latin rock icons Maná.

Next on the list with four nominations each are Regional Mexican bands Calibre 50 and Voz de Mando, Norteño music artist Noel Torres, bachata star Romeo Santos, and urban/tropical performer Tito el Bambino. They are followed by America Sierra, Banda El Recodo, Don Omar, Elvis Crespo, J Alvarez, Jenni Rivera, Jesse & Joy, Rigú, Thalía, Victor Manuelle, and Wisin y Yandel, all vying for three awards each.

Additional Latin music greats who are up for 2014 “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina” awards in a variety of categories include Chino y Nacho, Daddy Yankee, El Dasa, Elvis Crespo, Fanny Lu, Frankie J, Ilegales, Leslie Grace, N’Klabe, Olga Tañón, Pitbull, Ricardo Arjona, Ricky Martin, Roberto Tapia, Tito el Bambino, Tommy Torres, and Victor Manuelle, among others.
