Univision announces the premiere of “Jesús”

Univision announced the premiere of the primetime series “Jesus,” an epic historical drama depicting the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, starring Dudu Azevedo (“La Tierra Prometida,” “Moises y Los Diez Mandamientos”) in the title role.  The multimillion-dollar production will air Monday through Friday at 8pm ET/PT 7:00pm CT, beginning on November 5.

From Jesus’s relationship with his followers and disciples, to the day of his birth, death and resurrection, audiences will be able to experience and share the story of Jesus and those he healed.

The super production created by Brazil’s Record TV follows the success of other sword-and-sandals series broadcasted on Univision Networks including “El Rico y Lazaro,” “La Tierra Prometida” and “Moises y Los Diez Mandamientos”. The series was filmed in part on location in Brazil and Morocco, featuring meticulous attention to detail and breathtaking filmography. Many scenes were filmed at the renowned Atlas Studios, located close to the Sahara Desert where box office hits such as “Lawrence of Arabia” and “Gladiator” were created, as well as HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”

The story starts before his birth. After receiving the announcement that the son of God is on the way, Maria gives birth to the chosen one and, together with her husband Joseph, try to raise their child with values and good principles. The prophecy of the chosen one troubles King Herod, who goes on to persecute the family, forcing Maria and Joseph to raise Jesus as an ordinary young man. Over the years, however, Jesus understands his true role in the world and travels through villages carrying the teachings of peace and equality together with his twelve apostles.
