Univision Announces the Premiere of “La Usurpadora”

Univision announced the U.S. premiere of “La Usurpadora” (The Usurper), one of the most popular dramas of all time and the first series of “The Collection,” an anthology of timeless classics reimagined for today’s audiences. Produced by Carmen Armendáriz, the 25-episode series begins September 16, and will air Monday through Friday at 9 p.m. ET on Univision.

In this new take on the tale of identical twin sisters separated at birth played by Sandra Echevarría, Paola, the evil twin, is the unpopular and neglected First Lady of Mexico. Her benevolent counterpart, Paulina, is a social worker in Colombia. The story begins when Paola tricks her sister into assuming her place, setting her up for assassination in order to run off with her lover, Gonzalo Santamaría (Juan Martín Jáuregui), and start a new life. When the plot fails, Paulina flourishes in her new role and the love is born between her and the President. Led by jealousy, the evil Paola tries to expose the usurper and take back her place and her power.

“La Usurpadora” also features performances by Juan Carlos Barreto, Arap Bethke, Germán Bracco, Ana Bertha Espín, Queta Lavat, Macarena Oz, and Andrés Palacios. “The Collection,” an anthology of timeless classics reimagined for today’s audiences, includes titles such as “Rubí,” “Cuna de Lobos” (Den of Wolves), and “El Maleficio” (The Evil One).

“La Usurpadora” will be available in closed captioning on CC3 for English-speaking audiences interested in watching.
