Univision begins production of “La Piloto”

Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) announced that its new joint venture with the internationally-acclaimed producer Patricio Wills has been named W Studios. The joint venture, announced earlier this year, will develop edgy, action-packed series primarily for primetime broadcast on UniMás and created specifically for U.S. Hispanic audiences.

The first production from W Studios will be La Piloto (The Pilot), from Jorg Hiller, the writer of “Tiro de Gracia”, and “Porque el Amor Manda.”  Inspired by real-life events, La Piloto tells the story of Yolanda, a girl who dreams of becoming a pilot.  Destiny grants her wish, but she winds up flying small planes used to move drugs across Mexico, Colombia and Central America.  John Lucio, her boyfriend and former flight instructor, betrays her to avoid going to prison.  This fuels Yolanda´s thirst for revenge and, ultimately, motivates her to seek control of the drug trafficking business.

“We have started casting for this compelling story and are delighted with the phenomenal roster of interested talent to choose from,” said W Studios President, Patricio Wills. “I’m looking forward to producing a project like this with such a unique and timely storyline.”

“Patricio Wills is one of the best producers in our industry,” said Andres Mendoza, VP of Programming, UniMás Network. “We are thrilled to join forces with him as we continue our successful strategy of providing UniMás viewers exciting, alternative programming formats.”

W Studios is based in Miami.  La Piloto, is expected to air in fourth quarter 2016.
