Univision Contigo launches “Reto 28”

Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) as part of its award-winning Univision Contigo empowerment platform, today announced the launch of a month-long health and wellness campaign. The initiative kicks off with “Reto 28,” a 28-day nutritional and fitness challenge on Monday, June 1, 2015 leading into the return of its third annual “Semana de la Salud” (Health Week), taking place June 6-13, 2015.

“Reto 28” is a free, step-by-step, 28-day nutritional diet plan and fitness challenge devised by health nutritionist Sabrina Hernandez-Cano, Latina chef Doreen Colondres, and Univision News’ chief medical correspondent Dr. Juan Rivera, to help the community embrace a healthy lifestyle available via reto28.univision.com. Those who participate will receive weekly plans for four weeks with calculated meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks every day with the goal of reducing caloric-intake. The tool allows participants to track their progress from beginning to end. As part of the campaign, Dr. Rivera is partnering with Johns Hopkins University and the American Heart Association to measure the results and impact of the program, identify trends and the best way to serve the health ‎information needs of Hispanics.

“Reto 28 was created with the intention of helping those in our community that don’t have the access or resources to a nutritionist or medical professional, seek a healthier lifestyle,” stated Dr. Rivera. “In taking on this initiative, we have the opportunity to influence behavior while providing a tool that we know can have a positive impact on a major population.”

The campaign will lead into “Semana de la Salud,” where UCI will feature special, diverse health-related programming across its television, radio, local, and digital platforms while activating its Health Tour, “Camino a la Salud” (The Road to Health), a nationwide local health fair which offers free health screenings, fitness activities, nutritious food demonstrations and other health-related offerings in cities across the country.

“It is our goal to educate our community about the long-term benefits of adopting a healthier lifestyle while empowering them with the tools to do so,” said Roberto Llamas, executive vice president for Human Resources & Community Empowerment, Univision Communications Inc. “Through Reto 28 we aim to mobilize our community to take ongoing actions that can lead to a richer, healthier life.”
