Univision countdown to the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The Univision Networks announced today they will kick off the official countdown to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa with the exclusive Spanish-language broadcast of the upcoming FIFA Confederations Cup. As a warm-up to their exclusive coverage of the world’s biggest sporting event next summer, this highly anticipated champions tournament will air LIVE directly from South Africa, beginning Sunday, June 14 on Univision, TeleFutura, and Galavisión. 
 
The tournament will pit eight teams against each other; the winners of each of the six FIFA confederation championships – European champion, Spain; North America, Central America and Caribbean Gold Cup champion, USA; Asian Cup champion, Iraq; South America champion, Brazil; African Cup of Nations champion, Egypt; and Oceania Nations Cup champion, New Zealand – plus the host country, South Africa, and the 2006 FIFA World Cup champion, Italy.
 
Throughout the duration of the tournament, Univision will air special half-hour Confederations Cup editions of its popular sports magazine show “República Deportiva” (Sports Republic) before and after each match. “República Deportiva” “President,” Fernando Fiore will be in South Africa for the tournament kickoff to bring sports fans exclusive images, highlights, interviews and coverage of this exciting event.
