Univision Deportes announces nominees for Premios Univision Deportes

Univision Deportes announced the contenders for the second annual Premios Univision Deportes (Univision Sports Awards). Nominees include top athletes and teams from the leagues and sports that U.S. Hispanics care about most.
As part of the lead-up to the awards program, Univision Deportes’ Edgar Martínez and Adriana Monsalve will host “Premios Univision Deportes: Las Nominaciones,” a special one-hour program with in-depth stories highlighting the nominees and their accomplishments. The special show will also feature a sneak peak of this year’s event, debates about the nominees by Univision Deportes experts, live polls for the fanaticos, and much more. “Premios Univision Deportes: Las Nominaciones” airs Tuesday, December 1st at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT/5 p.m. PT on UDN (Univision Deportes Network).
More than 60 athletes and teams have been nominated in 25 categories for their accomplishments on and off the field in sports ranging from soccer, basketball, baseball to boxing, auto racing and diving. Nominees include veteran Venezuelan first baseman Miguel Cabrera, Barça and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi, Mexican soccer ace Javier “Chicharito” Hernández and U.S. women’s national soccer team midfielder Carli Lloyd, who is in the running for both Female Athlete of the Year and Soccer Goal of the Year. Winners in the categories of Soccer Goal of the Year, Breakthrough of the Year and Extreme Sports Athlete of the Year will be chosen by fans, who may vote once a day per category at PremiosUnivisionDeportes.com through Wednesday, December 16th at 11:59 p.m. ET.
Awards will be presented to 25 winners for their passion, athletic excellence and their connection to Hispanic American sports fans. Categories and special recognition awards are:

In addition, Univision Deportes as part of the Company’s mission to empower the community it serves, this year will improve a soccer club for unprivileged kids in the City of Miami. The story will be featured during the award show.
Award winners will be announced on “Premios Univision Deportes,” which will air LIVE on Univision Network on Sunday, December 20th at 8 p.m. ET/PT with a simulcast on UDN. Premios Univision Deportes will also be available via Univision Now.
