Univision expands Univision Deportes team.

Univision Communications Inc. announced the appointment of two new executives Victoria Vitarelli as vice president of Marketing, Univision Deportes, and Sharon van Zwieten as senior executive producer of News, Univision Deportes. Both will report to Alexander “Sandy” Brown, president of Sports, Univision Communications Inc.
 
“As Univision continues to expand its sports offerings, I am delighted to bring two executives with a proven trajectory of success to the Univision Deportes team,” said Brown. “As one with extensive sports and consumer marketing experience, Vicky will be critical in building the next phase of our brand’s growth. Sharon’s success in developing and managing a news infrastructure in a cross-cultural environment will prove invaluable as we build out this important area within our programming base.”
 
In this new role based in New York, Vitarelli will oversee all strategic marketing and brand building endeavors for Univision’s sports properties across all media platforms. She most recently served as senior director of Marketing for the New York Jets where she oversaw branding, consumer marketing and activations for the franchise. Prior to this position, Vitarelli was vice president of Americas Brand Building at MasterCard International where she led advertising efforts, facilitated brand communications, supported promotions and relationship marketing, and developed marketing strategies for the U.S. Hispanic community. She also held positions at Publicis Bloom as an account executive, Bozell as an account manager and Ogilvy & Mather as a media planner.

Based in Miami and also in a newly created role, van Zwieten will be charged with overseeing Univision’s sports news programming. She was previously at ESPN Star Sports based in Singapore where she served as senior executive producer of News. In her role there, van Zwieten developed and launched ESPNews, a 24-hour pan-regional cable network, “SportsCenter Malaysia” and “Score Tonight,” a Pan-Asian sports show. Prior to ESPN Star Sports, van Zwieten served as senior executive producer of “NewsNight with Aaron Brown” at CNN. She has held various other positions in the broadcast industry including as senior producer of “ABC News LIVE,” executive producer of “American Morning with Paula Zahn,” supervising producer of CNN’s “Daybreak,” and producer of “CNN This Morning Asia.”
