Univision launches “La Semana de la Salud’

Univision Communications Inc has launched “La Semana de la Salud” (Health Week), an empowerment initiative aimed at addressing U.S. Hispanics’ principal health concerns and increasing awareness about the importance of prevention and access to health care, with emphasis on how the ACA will potentially impact Latinos’ lives.
 
Ending on Saturday, December 7, “La Semana de la Salud” (Health Week) will present special health-themed programming across many of the Univision Network’s top rated shows. Each day of the  week will be dedicated to a different topic, to be covered through special stories and segments airing on “Despierta América” (Wake Up America), “Hoy” (Today), “Primer Impacto” (First Impact), “Noticiero Univision” (Network Newscast), “Aquí y Ahora” (Here and Now), “Sábado Gigante” (Giant Saturday), “República Deportiva” (Sports Republic), and “Cita con tu Salud” (Appointment with Your Health).
 
The stories and segments, featured throughout each day within the different programs, will focus on a wide variety of health-related topics that fall under the following themes:
 
Monday, Dec. 2 – Health and Wellness
Tuesday, Dec. 3 – Families and Communities
Wednesday, Dec. 4 – Alternative Medicine
Thursday, Dec. 5 – Access to Care
Friday, Dec. 6 – Women’s Health
Saturday, Dec. 7 – Affordable Care Act
 
Distinguished guests and celebrities with an interesting health story to tell will be featured on the Univision Network throughout “La Semana de la Salud” (Health Week), among them Dr. Jane Delgado, CEO of the National Alliance for Hispanic Health, New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, and Nacho Cano, former member of the internationally famous Spanish pop group, Mecano. Univision News’ chief medical correspondent, Dr. Juan Rivera, and Cecilia Ramírez Harris, health correspondent for “Primer Impacto,” will also file special reports.
 
In addition, two Town Hall meetings will be hosted by Univision during “La Semana de la Salud” (Health Week):
 
“Radiografía de Obamacare” (X-Ray of Obamacare) — Moderated by Univision News anchors Pamela Silva Conde and Enrique Acevedo, this Town Hall will address the Hispanic community’s questions and concerns about the Affordable Care Act, leading up to the law’s full implementation in January 2014. Taped in Los Angeles with the participation of a live studio audience, the event will be streamed LIVE via NoticiasUnivision.com on Thursday, December 5 at 8 a.m. ET/11 a.m. PT, and broadcast on the Univision Network on Saturday, December 7 at 4 p.m. ET/PT.
 
Women’s Health and Obamacare – The effects of the Affordable Care Act on women’s health will be discussed in a Town Hall taking place at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. The event will be available online on NoticiasUnivision.com on Friday, December 6 at 12 noon ET/9 a.m. PT.
 
“La Semana de la Salud” (Health Week), kicked off on Sunday, December 1st with a special segment in Univision’s public affairs show “Al Punto” (To the Point), hosted by Jorge Ramos, followed later in the day by a special program produced by Univision News’ award-winning Documentary Unit, titled “Estado Crítico: Un Joven Inquieto Explora Obamacare” (Critical Condition: A Concerned Youngster Explores Obamacare). On Monday, December 2, Univision aired and published stories focused on the theme of Health and Wellness.

Nearly one third of U.S. Hispanics are currently uninsured, one in five Hispanic children are overweight, and Hispanics are also disproportionately affected by diabetes and stress.
