Univision launches Plan Prosperidad.

To extend its longstanding legacy of service in the Hispanic community, Univision Communications Inc. announced the launch of Plan Prosperidad (Prosperity Plan), a comprehensive multiplatform, multi-year national financial empowerment initiative designed to create awareness about financial literacy and entrepreneurship among the Hispanic community in the U.S.

“The Census showed that more than two million Hispanic-owned businesses across the country actively created jobs, generating nearly $275 billion in revenue,” said Cesar Conde, president of Univision Networks. ‘“Plan Prosperidad’ was created to ensure that we continue empowering financial literacy in the Latino community. As the fastest growing community in the U.S., the financial well-being of Hispanics correlates to the overall success of the national economy.”

Plan Prosperidad will be guided by an advisory board of national leaders, financial experts and partners such as Accion, Consumer Reports and the Americas Business Council Foundation to define the key issues and strategies to engage the community.

Plan Prosperidad will be made available to the Latino community through various efforts including: a multi-media campaign across all of Univision’s networks, radio and online platforms, a designated website (Univision.com/prosperidad), and a robust social media campaign and grassroots events. Award-winning news correspondent of “Noticiero Univision Edición Nocturna” Enrique Acevedo will serve as the spokesperson for the initiative, staring in various PSAs and leading outreach to the Hispanic community. “Primer Impacto’s” correspondent Ricardo Arambarri will be presenting a series of 30-second financial videos to air nationally every week.

In partnership with State Farm Bank, Univision’s Plan Prosperidad, will hold financial literacy town halls in key cities in the next two months: Chicago on Dec. 1, Atlanta and Denver on Jan. 5 and Phoenix Jan. 6. The town halls will feature financial experts and State Farm Bank agents advising Hispanics on how to get to a better state.

Additional elements of the campaign include:

-A series of workshops across the U.S. to help Hispanic small business owners hosted by Univision and Accion. The first workshop will take place on Dec. 8 in Miami (www.us.accion.org/laidea).

-The Latin America Idea Competition (La Idea), an international business competition which Univision started in partnership with the U.S. State Department and the Inter-American Development Bank will also form part of Plan Prosperidad. Highlighting Univision’s commitment to empowering Hispanic entrepreneurs, La Idea (www.laidea.us) will provide grants and access to up to $100 million in investment financing to winning business ideas.

-Plan Prosperidad will leverage new content from Univision partners including: Accion, Consumer Reports, Poder magazine and the Americas Business Council Foundation. To celebrate entrepreneurship and highlight inspiring Latinos, in December, Univision with its partners Americas Business Council Foundation and Ashoka, will also publish the first-ever “Latino Social Entrepreneurs” list.

-In March 2013, Univision’s Los Angeles affiliate, KMEX will host the first-ever “Financial Feria” at the University of Southern California.
