Univision local news in LA & NY land top spots in the country.

The Univision Television Group announced that two of its stations’ newscasts have once again taken the top two spots in the entire country, regardless of language. According to the Nielsen Station Index, KMEX Univision 34 in Los Angeles and WXTV Univision 41 in New York led all other stations in the country during the first quarter of the year by securing the #1 and #2 early evening newscasts among all Adults 18-49, not just Hispanics.
  
“For more than 40 years, we have been committed to providing our viewers with information and resources that have a direct impact on their lives, making us vital to the Hispanic community in the U.S.,” said Joanne Lynch, president of the Univision and TeleFutura Station Group. “These superior viewership results once again prove that Hispanic America turns to Univision for information they need in the language that speaks to them.”
 
In Los Angeles, KMEX Univision 34 posted an impressive 166,000 Adults 18-49 during its weekday 6:00 p.m. local news, averaging as many as 68,000 more viewers than the market’s #2 newscast on KABC-TV. In New York, WXTV Univision 41’s 6:00 p.m. newscast attracted 140,000 Adults 18 to 49, averaging 6,000 more viewers than the #2 newscast on WABC-TV.
 
Additionally, in the 2009 March Sweeps, KMEX Univision 34 delivered more viewers among Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 than any Los Angeles area local stations, regardless of language. KMEX averaged ratings well above all other stations in Los Angeles sign-on to sign-off, including the major English-language network affiliates – KABC-TV (ABC), KTTV (FOX), KCBS-TV (CBS), and KNBC-TV (NBC).
 
Prior to posting the nation’s #1 early local news during first quarter 2009, KMEX Univision 34 in Los Angeles was ranked as the #1 station across the nation among all Adults 18-49, regardless of language, for the year of 2008.
