Univision Music Group Sweeps 2003 Billboard Latin Awards.

Univision Music Group won an impressive 11 awards, including Top Latin Albums Label of the Year and Regional Mexican Albums Label of the Year, in the 2003 edition of the Billboard Latin Music Awards held in Miami on May 8, 2003.

Univision Music Group is composed of Univision Records, Fonovisa Records and 50% ownership of Disa Records. Collectively, the group garnered a record 31 nominations, winning 11 of the most important awards of the night.

Fonovisa Records earned perhaps the highest accolade in the Regional Mexican genre by winning the Regional Mexican Airplay Label of the Year award. In addition, Fonovisa’s Los Temerarios swept the two categories that they were nominated in — Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year and Regional Mexican Album of the Year, Male Group for “Una Lagrima No Basta.” In like manner, Conjunto Primavera won Regional Mexican Airplay of the Year, Male Group for their track “Perdoname Mi Amor.”

Univision Records’ Pilar Montenegro tied for the highest number of nominations and snared three of the seven awards for her internationally acclaimed #1 hit “Quitame Ese Hombre,” which won for Latin Pop Airplay Track of the Year, Female Artist, Regional Mexican Airplay Track of the Year, Female Artist and Regional Mexican Airplay Track of the Year, New Artist. Jennifer Pena, also with Univision Records, won Regional Mexican Album of the Year, Female Artist for her solo debut album “Libre.”
