Univision Network To Air Special On Cancer Prevention.
June 15, 2004
As part of Univision’s health initiative “Salud es Vida… Enterate!” (Lead a Healthy Life… Get the Facts!), the network will present a half-hour educational special entitled “Cancer…su guia de prevencion” (Cancer…your guide to prevention) on Saturday, July 17th at 10am ET (9am Central). Hosted by Univision news anchor, Neida Sandoval, this program will provide viewers with important information regarding the early detection and prevention of cancer.
The special will feature interviews with doctors and medical specialists, who will explain the various lifestyle risk factors related to this condition. Cancer survivors will also present testimonials of how they have been able to better their health through a balanced diet and proper physical activity.
Hispanics low screening rates make them more likely to be diagnosed at a more advanced stage of the disease when fewer treatment options are available. Lack of insurance coverage, language barriers, and fear keep Hispanics from early cancer screening and treatment that could save their lives.
“Cancer…tu guia de prevencion” will provide Hispanic TV viewers with a general awareness of the importance of sustaining a healthy lifestyle in order to reduce the risk of cancer. Univision will also air a series of public service announcements, designed to provide ongoing reminders on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
