Univision ‘Noticias 14’ Leads In Bay Area.
August 9, 2002
According to the July 2002 Nielsen Station Index report, more Bay Area Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49 are watching KDTV’s “Noticias 14” at 6pm than any other early local newscast. In a stunning ratings upset, the Spanish-language newscast averaged more of these viewers than KTVU’s “Ch2 News at 6p,” KGO’s “ABC7 News at 6p,” KNTV’s “NBC3 News at 6p,” KRON’s “KRON4 News at 6pm” or KPIX’s “CH 5 Eyewitness News.” The Adult 18-49 victory is particularly significant for the local Univision owned-and-operated station because this demographic is most prized among commercial advertisers. With a 2.2 rating average among Adults 18-49, “Noticias 14” is also celebrating its highest ever rating delivery among this audience.
KDTV Univision 14 claimed other ratings victories against English-language stations, as well. The station’s “Noticias 14” newscast at 11pm outperformed all other 11pm newscasts among Bay Area Adults 18-34 and delivered its best ever rating performance among Adults 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54. In primetime, KDTV delivered 9 of the Top 20 ranked shows among all Bay Area Adults 18-34, including, “Privilegio de Amar” and “Salomé,” which now rank alongside KNTV/NBC’s “Friends” and KTVU/FOX’s “The Simpsons.” KDTV tied KTVU/FOX in primetime among Bay Area Adults 18-34 with a 3.9 rating or an average 59,000 viewers in the demographic, and tied KNTV/NBC for second place behind KTVU/FOX among Adults 18-49 with a 84,240 viewers in the demographic. Comparing this July’s rating results to the July 2001 Nielsen Station Index, KDTV Univision 14’s audience has increased in all key dayparts, including daytime, early fringe, early news, primetime and late news.
Earlier this year, KDTV’s “Noticias 14” was awarded a Northern California Emmy Award in the small market category for “Best Newscast,” and received the “Best Newscast” and “Best News Series” honors from the Northern California chapter of Radio-Television News Director Association (RTNDA).
