Univision premiers ‘Destilando Amor’.

Univision announced that one of its most highly anticipated novelas, “Destilando Amor” (Essence of Love), will make its debut on the network Monday, March 26, at 9 pm ET/PT (8pm Central).

“Destilando Amor” features an all-star cast and marks the triumphant return of two of Spanish-language TV’s biggest stars to U.S. television. Starring as the story’s male lead, Rodrigo, is motion picture and major novela heartthrob Eduardo Yañez whose love interest is played by one of the genre’s favorite actresses, Angélica Rivera (“La Dueña,” “Mariana de la Noche”). Also starring are popular actors such as Sergio Sendel (“Heridas de Amor”), Chantal Andere (“Amor Real”), Alejandro Tomassi (“Alborada”), and Ana Patricia Rojo (“Mujer de Madera”).

Set in the picturesque Mexican town of Tequila, Jalisco, “Destilando Amor” is a gripping love story as strong and pure as the famous distilled liquor that bears the name of the warm and fertile region where it is produced. It is the story of Gaviota (Rivera), a young, beautiful field hand who meets and falls in love with Rodrigo (Yañez), the handsome grandson of the owner of the agave cactus plantation where she works. Rodrigo goes to England to finish his degree, promising to return in a year. But Gaviota finds herself with child and decides to set out across the ocean to find him. In her innocence, she is deceived by a local photographer promising to help her and falls prey to a gang of white slave traders who send her to a brothel in Paris. She manages to escape, but alone and not speaking the language, Gaviota sets off for England on a perilous and unsuccessful quest to reunite with the man she loves. Eventually, she returns to Mexico City where she encounters more unscrupulous people whose greed, envy, and deceit threaten to turn her once warm and innocent heart to stone. Undaunted, and with a newfound inner strength, she faces each obstacle with resolve and fortitude. And in the process distills the true meaning of love.
