Univision presents special ‘Entérate’ SIDA, 25 Años Después’ on December 2, 2006.

Univision, in partnership with the Kaiser Family Foundation, will air a half-hour special “Entérate… SIDA, 25 Años Después” (Get the Facts!…AIDS, 25 Years Later) hosted by award-winning news anchor Jorge Ramos on Saturday, December 2nd (check your local listings for time). As part of Univision’s Peabody award winning health initiative “Salud es Vida…! Entérate!” (Lead a Healthy Life…Get the Facts!), the special will explore AIDS among Hispanics in the United States.

“Even though this year marks the 25th anniversary of the first reported HIV/AIDS cases in this country, AIDS continues to greatly impact our world today,” said Ramos. “We want to help increase awareness on the current state of HIV/AIDS and dispel misconceptions that still exist today.”

This poignant special will feature an exclusive interview with Univision’s Emmy award winning talk-show host Cristina Saralegui, one of the first national Spanish-language on-air personalities to address this critical health issue. Cristina, who founded Arriba La Vida (Up With Life), a non-profit foundation that informs and educates Hispanics on HIV/AIDS, has addressed the United Nations on the subject of AIDS research and education.

“Entérate…SIDA, 25 Años Después” will take an in-depth look at the status of HIV/AIDS across the nation, including testimonials of people living with HIV/AIDS and highlights of local and national programs available to educate the community. It will feature interviews with medical and mental health experts, among them Dr. Aliza and Dr. Isabel, who both host national health shows on RadioCadena Univision. In this program, they will help viewers understand HIV/AIDS – its transmission, risk factors, cultural and behavioral barriers and strategies to reduce the spread of the virus.

In addition to this half-hour special, Univision and Kaiser have developed a new series of Public Service Announcements (PSA) and informational vignettes that will broadcast on the Univision Network and among Univision affiliates throughout the month of December. These announcements encourage young Hispanics to learn more about HIV/AIDS, talk to their families and partners about HIV, and get regular HIV tests. All PSAs direct audiences to the campaign’s toll-free hotline (1-866-TU-SALUD) and informational website ( www.univision.com – Uniclave: Entérate).

“With AIDS diagnoses in the U.S. increasing, it’s essential to provide potentially life saving information to help stem the tide,” said Tina Hoff, Kaiser Vice President and Director of the Entertainment Media Partnership program. “Working with Univision allows us to reach Hispanics with the information they need from a source they trust.”

Since 2001, Univision and Kaiser have worked together to inform and raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases through their ongoing partnership “¡Entérate!/¡Protégete!”

“Salud es Vida…!Entérate!” is a national effort designed to raise awareness, increase knowledge and encourage positive health decision-making. The initiative leverages Univision’s diverse media assets to educate its audience on health issues and promote primary prevention, habits of healthy living, access to care and disease-specific prevention and treatment.
