Univision Radio Miami Journalism Scholarship.

Univision Radio’s Miami stations — WAQI-710AM, Radio Mambi, WAMR-107.5 FM, WRTO-98.3 FM and WQBA-1140 AM announced that David Rodriguez and Jose Maya, students at the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Florida International University, are this year’s recipients of Univision Radio’s Journalism Scholarship.

“Univision Radio is in the business of communication and we want to support the next generation of journalists and communicators. They are the future of this business and it is up to us to cultivate and encourage those going into the field,” said Claudia Puig, SR. VP & Regional General Manager, Univision Radio. “We chose David and Jose because we believe they truly represent the future of journalism. They are bright and capable and I believe they have a great future ahead of them.”

David Rodriguez, a junior, is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and a regular contributor to The Beacon, FIU’s student newspaper. Jose Maya, also a junior, is the Assistant News Director for WRGP-FM, FIU’s student radio station. He anchors the station’s news/talk shows and round table discussions, and also writes for The Beacon.

To qualify for Univision Radio’s Journalism Scholarship, candidates must be full-time junior or senior journalism students, maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA and submit an essay entitled “Broadcast Journalism and the Latino Community.”
