Univision Stations Shine During November Sweeps.
November 8, 2003
Univision Communications Inc. announced that Univision owned-and-operated stations in the nation’s largest television markets of New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Houston and Phoenix achieved impressive Household ratings growth during the November Sweeps period. In fact, the Univision stations in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Phoenix outpaced their English-language and Spanish-language competitors during the Sweep, achieving greater year-over-year Household ratings growth across the entire broadcast day than any other station in those markets, according to Nielsen Station Index (NSI).
During November Sweeps, Univision’s flagship station, KMEX-Los Angeles, grew its sign-on-to-sign-off Household ratings 28%, while WXTV-New York grew 6%, WLTV-Miami 2%, KXLN-Houston 10% and KTVW-Phoenix 38%, compared to last year.
In primetime, Univision stations posted significant year-to-year ratings growth among Households in Los Angeles, growing 28%, Miami 5%, New York 3%, Houston 5% and Phoenix 46%, while the English language stations posted ratings decreases.
“We are extremely pleased with the continued top-notch performance of our Univision stations across the nation,” said Michael D. Wortsman, President, Univision Television Group. “Univision is experiencing terrific growth in large and small television markets, while most of the English-language networks continue to see declines. Our achievements in the November Sweeps show the strength of our Network’s Fall-lineup, in addition to the popularity of our local news programming.”
Univision’s local news performed exceptionally well during the Sweeps period. In Los Angeles, New York, Houston and Phoenix, Univision’s award winning early evening local news posted double-digit growth. In all of these markets, Univision’s local news outdelivered competing Spanish-language network Telemundo’s audience by at least 50%.
