Univision Television Group in Texas takes home 33 Emmy Awards

Univision Television Group stations in Texas- KXLN Houston 45, KWEX San Antonio 41, KUVN Dallas 23, KSTR UniMás 49 and KAKW Austin 62, received a total of 33 Emmy awards at this year’s 11th Annual Lone Star EMMY awards ceremony held on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013.

KXLN Houston 45 won 16 Emmys in the following categories:

KUVN Dallas 23 won 7 Emmys in the following categories:

o    Team Coverage – North Texas Tornados

o    Feature News Report (Serious Feature) – Soy Swat
o    Arts/Entertainment (News Single Story/Series/Feature) – El Peso Hero
o    Arts/Entertainment (Program/Special) – Premios Texas Extra 2012
o    Public/Current/Community Affairs (Feature/Segment) – Salvando Vidas

KSTR UniMás 49 won 1 Emmy in the following category:

o    Outstanding Achievement In Community Service – Vive Verde

KAKW Austin 62 won 1 Emmy in the following category:

o    Arts/Entertainment (Program/Special/Premios) – Texas Extra 2012

In addition, Emilio Nicolas, Sr., one of the founders of Univision affiliate KWEX, was inducted into the prestigious Silver Circle of the Lone Star Chapter of NATAS at the award ceremony. The Silver Circle honors media professionals who began their careers in television at least 25 years ago, either in a performing, creative, technical or administrative role within the industry or in an area related to television such as TV journalism education, advertising, promotion, and public relations.

The 11th Annual Lone Star EMMY awards ceremony was held for the first time in the chapter’s history in San Antonio. Every year, the prestigious Texas Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) honors excellence in broadcasting among the Texas area industry’s finest.
