Univision welcomes the new DTV era with a countdown from Times Square.

Univision will welcome the new era of digital television with an exclusive DTV countdown from Times Square on Friday, June 12, 2009 from 11:30 pm – 12:30am ET/PT (10:30pm – 11:30pm Central) as part of an extended broadcast of “Noticiero Univision Ultima Hora:Una Nueva Era” (Univision Late News: A New Era), anchored by Edna Schmidt and Enrique Teutelo.
As Univision’s first network program to broadcast digitally, “Noticiero Univision Ultima Hora: Una Nueva Era” will give viewers an in-depth look at how the transition is taking place throughout the country, including reports from Univision’s control room and transmission tower as the switch to digital TV occurs; and commentary from Keyla Hernandez Ulloa, an FCC representative, on the progress of the transition as it happens throughout the country. Additionally, viewers will have the opportunity to submit questions via email through Univision.com to Schmidt and Teutelo if they are experiencing troubles during the transition.
In the final push to DTV, Univision will also broadcast an extended edition of “Despierta America” (Wake Up America) entitled “Ya Vamos Digital” (We Are Going Digital). Additionally, Univision will feature hourly countdowns across all of its local stations, and 45 second news briefs in primetime each hour at the network level.
