Univision’s Jose Valle named Radio Ink’s Radio Executive of The Year.

Radio Ink magazine has chosen Univision Radio President Jose Valle as its Executive of the Year. Valle, who started out as a receptionist at KTNQ and KLVE in Los Angeles, is now responsible for 70 radio stations in 16 of the top U.S. Hispanic markets and five stations in Puerto Rico, leading 1,100 Univision Radio employees. And among the stations Valle now runs are KTNQ and KLVE, where he once answered the phones. Valle will be featured as the cover interview in the January 7 issue of Radio Ink.

About being named Executive of the Year, Valle said, “This is radio. This is fun stuff. Being able to enjoy what we do, having a connection to our folks that put up banners – because I’ve been there, working with the traffic department. I’ve been there, and I understand the dilemma of salespeople bringing in orders past the deadline. All those kinds of things, I think, play into it, but at the end of the day, I think it’s about transparency and being authentic. I want to say thank you to Radio Ink. You have been really welcoming and warm to me. I am just a simple radio guy. I like to run my stations and run my group. You guys have more than opened the door, more than welcomed me.”
Radio Ink Publisher Eric Rhoads said, “Univision Radio is going through a transformation, and we have seen a 180-degree turn in how they operate, where their focus lies, and their deep commitment to this industry. Jose has been driving this innovation, and we’re watching this big ship make a dramatic change in course as a result of his leadership, which makes us proud to name him our Radio Executive of the Year.”

Before joining Univision, Valle served as president and general manager of Telemundo’s flagship station, KVEA, as well as overseeing operations for Spanish-language independent station KWHY in Los Angeles from 2008 to 2010. Before that he was VP/GM of KXTX-TV/Dallas, where he played a key role in the consolidation and integration of operations with NBC O&O KXAS.

Univision Communications President & CEO Randy Falco said,  “Jose Valle epitomizes Univision’s values of integrity, excellence, collaboration, and innovation, which is why we are not surprised that he was selected as Radio Ink’s Executive of the Year. Jose has played an integral role in the continued growth and success of Univision Radio. We join Radio Ink, a leader in the radio industry, in celebrating Jose.”

Radio Ink EVP/Radio Deborah Parenti said, “Jose Valle has brought a fresh, exciting sense of energy and vision, not only to Hispanic radio, but to the radio industry as a whole. We are proud to recognize him as Executive of the Year and look forward to hearing more from him and his team at Univision Radio in the years to come.”
